Get it while you can download in its entirety. Peter Day of the BBC’s Global Business interviews Chris Anderson about the digital economy, the notion of ‘Free’, Freemiums and more.
So a few months ago it was nice to be back in the Wired Offices 15 years later to hear from the current editor Chris Anderson. British-born, he’s already well-known for his last book The Long Tail, about the way internet businesses such as the retailers Amazon.com can cater for huge individual choices (a long tail of specific choices in a way that the old mass production suppliers could not. Chris Anderson has a new book coming out soon, and that’s what we talked about, as he barely paused for breath in an hour of interview.
I am very excited for Anderson’s new book, Free: The Past and Future of a Radical Price. He talks about how Free is redefining multiple traditional industries, speaks to the generation gap and how it impacts understanding and even gets into the Public Broadcasting economy for a few moments during the interview. I can only imagine what this book will do if it has even part of the impact that The Long Tail did.

I started to have some (further) ideas about evolving models for public broadcasting fund raising, as the increasing push to digital upsets the apple cart with respect to the traditional model for bringing dollars in the door. I’ll wager another post on that topic after another listen to this interview.
Sadly, the BBC (much though they pat themselves on the back over the podcast being ‘free’) make it ‘difficult’ to access archived content beyond Windows Media and Realplayer streams in the archives. No MP3 downloads. I suggest you save a copy of this podcast for those who will miss the window before it is relegated to streamland.
